Getting started with your kit

Most problems come down to one thing: the app you open the PDF in. Pick your device below and you'll be filling it in within a minute.

Filling in the PDF

  1. Install the free Adobe Acrobat Reader app from the App Store.
  2. Open your Gumroad email or library, tap Download, then tap the share icon and choose Acrobat (or "Open in Acrobat").
  3. Tap any box. The keyboard opens and you can type. Tap a checkbox to tick it.
  4. Your entries save in Acrobat automatically. To keep a copy, tap the share icon and Save to Files.
No app? Apple's Files app can also fill in many forms: save the PDF to Files, open it and tap a box. If nothing happens, use Acrobat.
  1. Install the free Adobe Acrobat Reader app from Google Play.
  2. Download the kit, then open it from your Downloads with Acrobat (tap the file and choose Acrobat if asked).
  3. Tap any box to type, or tap a checkbox to tick it.
  4. Acrobat saves your entries. Use Share to send yourself a copy.
Why it didn't work before: the PDF viewer built into many Android phones and into Chrome shows the pages but doesn't let you type in them. The kit isn't broken; the viewer just doesn't support forms. Google Drive's PDF viewer also works: open the file in Drive and tap Fill out form.
  1. Download the PDF to your computer.
  2. Open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader (free) for the best results. Chrome, Edge and Mac Preview also work for typing.
  3. Click a box and type. Press Tab to jump to the next box.
  4. Save when you're done (Ctrl+S on Windows, Cmd+S on Mac). In a browser, use the download/save icon so your entries are kept.
Tip: keep one copy on your computer as your "working copy" and open the same file each time. If you download it again from Gumroad, you'll get a blank one.
  1. Open the PDF and choose Print.
  2. Paper size: US Letter. Set scaling to Fit or Actual size.
  3. Pages 4–5 (the 30-day tracker) are landscape. Most printers rotate them automatically.
  4. You can print only what you need: for example pages 4–5 for tracking and page 9 for your summary.

Understanding the kit

What should I fill in first?
  1. Days 1–30: rate your symptoms each evening on the tracker (pages 4–5) or in the phone tracker. Log your period on page 6.
  2. Day 30: look back with the monthly reflection (page 7).
  3. The week before your appointment: health history (page 8), then your One-Page Summary (page 9). Use the Symptom Translator (pages 15–16) and pick your top 3 questions (pages 17–18).
  4. At the appointment: hand over page 9 and take notes on page 11.
  5. Afterward: start the 90-day "Is it working?" tracker (page 21).
Do I have to fill in every page?

No. The only pages that really matter are the tracker (or the phone tracker) and the One-Page Summary. Everything else is there when you need it.

What do the numbers 0–3 mean?

0 = none, 1 = mild (noticeable but not a problem), 2 = moderate (it affects your day), 3 = severe (it's hard to function). Rate how the day was overall, and don't overthink it. Patterns matter more than any single day.

I missed some days. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Leave them blank and keep going. Two or three weeks of check-ins is already far more than most people bring to an appointment.

What goes in "Period / spotting (P / S)"?

Write P on days you have a period and S on days with spotting. Leave it blank on other days. In the phone tracker, tap the matching bleeding option instead.

Should I use the PDF or the phone tracker?

Either one, or both. The phone tracker is quicker day to day and adds everything up for you; the PDF has more room for notes, scripts and questions. Many people track on the phone and print the PDF's summary and question pages.

Is this medical advice?

No. The kit and the tracker help you organize and describe what you're experiencing. They don't diagnose or recommend treatment. Bring what you've tracked to a qualified clinician. If something on the Red Flags page (page 19) applies to you, don't wait for your appointment.

The phone tracker

Where do I find it?

Open getmidlifedecoded.com/tracker in your phone's browser and tap Start tracking. To make it one tap away, add it to your home screen: on iPhone tap Share → Add to Home Screen; on Android tap ⋮ → Add to Home screen.

Where is my data stored?

Only on your phone, in that browser. There's no account and nothing is sent to us. That also means: use the same phone and the same browser each day, and don't use private/incognito mode.

I'm getting a new phone or clearing my browser

Open the tracker, go to the Safety tab and tap Download backup first. On the new phone, open the tracker and tap Restore backup.

How do I get the summary for my doctor?

Tap Summary, then Print or save as PDF. On a phone, choose Share or Save as PDF in the print screen. You can show it on your phone or print it.

Purchase and access

I can't find my download

Search your email for "Gumroad" (check Spam and Promotions too). You can also open your Gumroad library using the same email you bought with.

How does the 14-day guarantee work?

If the kit didn't help you prepare for your appointment, email us within 14 days of purchase with one line about what was missing, and we'll refund you in full.

Still stuck? We'll help.

Email us and tell us three things: your device (iPhone, Android or computer), the app you opened the PDF in, and the page you're on. A screenshot helps too. We reply within 1–2 business days.
